Since 2010, the Dell Young Leaders program has empowered over 2,000 South African students with comprehensive scholarships and life-changing support to succeed in university and secure meaningful careers. One standout example is Ndivhuwo Maphangule, who harnessed her passions to carve out her unique path.
From Finance Graduate to Retail Leader
“Embrace your authentic self and stay open to unexpected opportunities.” This wisdom from Ndivhuwo became the driving force in shaping her future. After earning a Finance degree in 2017, while many of her peers pursued traditional finance roles, Ndivhuwo chose to follow her passion. With guidance from the Dell Young Leaders program’s career consultations, she discovered that staying true to herself opened doors to flourishing opportunities in retail.
Through the career consultations, Ndivhuwo was encouraged to explore her love for retail, a dynamic industry offering endless growth opportunities. With the program’s support, she honed her interview skills, crafted a standout resume, and even connected with an industry professional who guided her through the transition into her new role.
Aspiring to Lead and Inspire
Today, Ndivhuwo thrives as a Buyer-Category Manager at a national retail chain, where she combines her finance expertise with her passion for retail. “The retail industry constantly evolves with market trends, consumer preferences, and supplier relationships. The most rewarding part is knowing you secured the best deal for your customers,” she shares. In her role, she manages the procurement of goods and services, ensuring they meet the right quality, price, and timing while also flexing her creative muscles with innovative products.
Ndivhuwo is driven to keep growing and hopes to step into a leadership role where she can mentor others and shape a positive workplace culture. “I aim to be a strong advocate for more opportunities within the retail space,” she says.

Her advice for new graduates? “Don’t fear the unknown—it may lead to your greatest success and happiness.”
