Some of the world’s most recognizable companies, including Amazon, Wabtec, 3M, and Zscaler, partner with Foundation for Excellence (FFE) to help engineering students across India move from college into full-time careers.

The Opportunity Gap in Engineering Education

As India’s digital economy grows, employers need engineers with both technical knowledge and real-world experience. Yet most graduates leave college without employer connections and hands-on learning. Across India, many colleges and universities don’t offer structured employer engagement or career services, leaving students with limited opportunities to gain practical experience before graduation. As a result, roughly 1 in 2 graduates in India is not considered job-ready by employers, according to the India Skills Report 2025.

Without internships, mentorship, or exposure to workplace expectations, students may struggle to build the communication, technical, and problem-solving skills employers look for when hiring early-career engineers.

At the same time, employers face growing demand for engineering talent and need more effective ways to identify and prepare job-ready graduates.

More Than a Scholarship

FFE pairs financial assistance with employer partnerships, offering mentoring, skill-building programs, and hands-on experience throughout college.

More than 100 leading employers partner with FFE as mentors, internship providers, and donors, giving students direct experience with what employers expect before they graduate. Programs like Amazon Future Engineers provide training and mentorship, while Wabtec supports students from scholarships through internships and hiring.

Building Skills, Confidence, and Connections

FFE identifies strong engineering students through a network of 40 nonprofit partners and 700 trained facilitators working across the country. Once selected, scholars receive personalized support throughout college. A dedicated technology platform tracks student progress and connects students with mentors, learning resources, internships, and hiring opportunities.

Students participate in 20 structured programs focused on communication, technical, and problem-solving skills employers look for in new engineers. Internships and employer-led sessions give scholars practical experience before graduation while helping employers identify emerging engineering talent. One-to-one mentoring from a network of 6,500 professionals helps students navigate early career decisions and prepare for the workplace.

Turning Potential Into Professional Careers

By combining financial support, employer engagement, mentorship, and career preparation, FFE is helping bridge the gap between higher education and employment — creating more pathways into India’s growing technology and engineering economy.

More than 90% of FFE scholars move into full-time jobs after graduation, often earning salaries 20% higher than their peers. FFE has supported more than 43,000 students to date, including 24,000 alumni who have built engineering careers across India.
